What You'll Be Doing
- Receive, log, and prepare construction material samples, including soils, aggregates, and concrete
- Perform standardized laboratory tests such as:
- Record accurate data and report findings to the Laboratory Manager
- Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and workspaces according to safety, quality, and accreditation standards
- Assist with QA/QC documentation and basic report preparation
- Follow established procedures and support team success
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and perform physical tasks safely
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to quality
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Required (or achievable soon after hire): ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I or ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Grade I (recognized certifications for concrete testing)
- WAQTC or CDOT materials technician qualifications for soil/aggregate testing or equivalent (Colorado recognizes WAQTC standards for technician qualification on transportation projects)
- Preferred: ACI Aggregate Testing Technician – Level I or NICET/ACI certifications relevant to materials testing
- WAQTC Embankment & Base and In-Place Density certification modules
- Radiation Safety and Nuclear Gauge safety certification (for density/moisture testing)
- Prior hands-on experience in a construction materials testing laboratory
- Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, or CDOT test methods
- Coursework in civil engineering, construction management, geology, or related field
- Strong communication and organizational skills
