Duties, Responsibilities & Other
- Inspects and monitors contractual fieldwork, including excavations, drainage facilities, concrete placement, steel and precast member erections, soil and aggregate placement, road surfaces, and structures of moderate complexity.
- Verifies construction of Roadway and Hwy to be in compliance with drawings, VDOT specifications and standards, special provisions and contract documents.
- Advises contractors of deficiencies, issues, failing tests, noncompliance and provides reference documents for conclusions.
- Takes field measurements of materials placed and record production and test results.
- Performs materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density and performs dense aggregate roller pattern control strips.
- Reviews placement of and performs materials tests on concrete deliveries in accordance VDOT and ACI standards.
- Make cylinders for delivery to the labs.
- Reviews and inspects asphalt and concrete roadways and bridge decks.
- Reviews and inspects reinforcing steel and forms prior to concrete placement of more complex and non-routine structures and signs pour cards.
- Reviews lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using standard survey and field engineering equipment.
- Oversees and enforces the installation of erosion/siltation controls and highways work zones and traffic control devices.
- Prepares daily diaries, inspection check lists and materials testing forms.
- Takes assignments and direction from Quality Control Lead Management and Senior Inspectors.

Qualifications
- Education and/or Skills Required: 0-2 years of experience
- Highschool/GED
- Ability to understand construction plans, specifications, and procedures.
- Demonstrate basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry.
- Possess the ability to read, write, and communicate fluently.
- Work effectively as a team member and complete daily reports by hand and computer.
