Construction Inspector (Level I or II)
- Performing construction inspection, oversight, and enforcement to ensure compliance with permit documents, approved plans, and applicable construction standards.
- Monitoring permitted activities for adherence to safety requirements.
- Responding to complaints and inquiries from the public, elected officials, other agencies, Land Development Division staff, and other Public Works divisions.
- Coinciding communication among all interested and affected parties, maintaining accurate records of work performed, and completing associated permit-administration tasks.
- Monitoring construction activities to confirm proper maintenance and restoration of the public right-of-way.
- Rejecting work that does not meet minimum standards or permit requirements and issuing notices to correct deficiencies.
- Preparing inspection reports and maintaining accurate documentation, including photographic records.
Technical Support Staff (Level 1-3)
- Maintaining effective working relationships with departmental staff, other agencies, contractors, and the public.
Responsibilities

Requirements
- At least 1 year (CI I) or 4 years (CI II) of construction-inspection experience on horizontal infrastructure projects such as roadway, sewer, storm drain and utility construction.
- Familiarity with, and working knowledge of, the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook) and the Standard Plans for Public Works Construction, with experience applying both.
- Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA Construction Safety Orders.
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications, special provisions, and other contract documents.
- Ability to enforce temporary traffic controls in accordance with approved traffic-control plans, lane-requirement guidelines, or the California MUTCD, Chapter 6.
- Ability to independently identify potential problems and propose effective solutions.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
