Construction Estimation Specialist
Schedule
The working hours for this position are from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Participate in planning meetings to determine the types of projects to bid on and establish effective bidding strategies.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site walk-throughs to gather essential project insights.
- Assess the decision of self-performing tasks versus subcontracting work, while also soliciting quotations from suitable vendors and suppliers, including DBE/MBE/WBE/SBE subcontractors as required.
- Review plans, specifications, and Geotech reports, coordinating quantity takeoffs and cost estimates, as well as analyzing alternative construction methods.
- Participate in bid reviews with the Department Manager and, following the award of the project, review preliminary schedules while transferring pertinent estimate-related information to the project team.
- Identify high-risk activities and incorporate safety-related costs into your estimates, ensuring a comprehensive approach to your work.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of construction experience, preferably in commercial, civil, and bridge construction
- 5+ years of experience estimating and bidding heavy civil work
- Familiarity with public bid processes
- Competency in using Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software
- Ability to read and understand plans for grading and drainage, paving, foundations, and off-site roadways
- Skills in performing takeoffs and understanding heavy equipment performance specifications
- Decision-making skills and the ability to work in a high-production environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with strong time management abilities
- Attention to detail with the capacity to recognize discrepancies
