Responsibilities

  • Be eager to learn, ask questions, and work under direction and supervision from Resident Engineers, Project Managers, Sr. Construction Inspectors, and Resident Project Representatives
  • Assist the Construction Manager with all facets of project execution
  • Receive, issue, and track RFIs, submittals, and other required data
  • Support other project and proposal efforts, including estimating, procurement, project controls, and coordinating, expediting, and tracking construction submittals
  • Read, clearly understand, and interpret construction drawings
  • Handle onsite construction administration aspects of complex small to medium projects or large routine projects related to civil infrastructure such as roads, bridges, class 1 railroad projects, and facilities projects related to buildings, water/wastewater facilities, pump stations, and pipelines
  • Apply basic technical knowledge of Electrical and M/P systems (HVAC & Plumbing)
  • Understand operational requirements, safety requirements, code inspections, and maintenance considerations
  • Assist with the coordination of construction administrative staffing and workload through the entire project life cycle, and verify required response times are being met
  • Convey any potential issues during construction back to engineers of record for assistance in troubleshooting
  • Monitor, record, and inspect progress on construction projects
  • Compose reports with a daily log of activities, personnel, and pictures to send to clients daily
  • Coordinate or conduct field materials sampling and testing, including concrete slump and air testing, casting concrete test cylinders, and performing in-place soil compaction testing
  • Establish and maintain client relations, and be involved with marketing, understanding contracts while performing site visits
  • Support the development of Site-Specific Safety Plans verifying that Health & Safety protocols are followed
  • Work with Accounting, Operational, and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
  • Travel to site-based locations as reasonably determined based on HDR needs outside of assigned area
  • Work outdoors and navigate construction sites in all seasons
  • Multitask effectively
  • Apply and implement QA/QC procedures
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related field
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong people skills and ability to interact with the design team
  • Commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture
  • Must successfully pass drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
  • Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of construction experience
  • Knowledge of estimating software programs (Timberline), scheduling software (Primavera P3 or SureTrak), Bluebeam Revu, and project management software (Prolog or Procore)
  • Any inspection or facilities certifications
  • Understanding of Project Management principles
  • Experience using construction grade survey equipment to check, track, and confirm asset installation
