About the role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Controller to join a well-established and growing construction organization based in the Charlotte market. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations while partnering closely with executive leadership to support continued growth and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting and financial operations for the company.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Manage WIP schedules, job cost reporting, revenue recognition, and project financial analysis.
  • Develop and maintain budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes.
  • Partner with operations and project management teams to monitor project profitability and financial performance.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • Manage external audits, tax preparation, and banking relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with all accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff while driving continuous process improvement.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience as a Controller within the construction industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction accounting principles, including WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, cash flow management, and project forecasting.
  • Hands-on Viewpoint Vista experience is required.
  • Experience managing accounting teams and developing accounting processes and controls.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, audits, banking relationships, and risk management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation is preferred but not required.

Key Qualifications

  • General contractor, heavy civil, utility, infrastructure, commercial, industrial, or water/wastewater construction experience.
  • Experience supporting organizations ranging from $50M to $200M+ in annual revenue.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate as a strategic business partner to ownership and executive leadership.
