About the role
The Manager of Contractor & Construction oversees standards for oversight of contractors performing rail infrastructure construction, maintenance, or replacement, including engineering emergency response work. This role focuses on expanding service offerings, driving contractor accountability, and managing projects in the freight rail, short line, and industrial sectors.
Responsibilities
- Provide constructability reviews and developing/analyzing construction phasing from the railroads’ perspective
- Communicate effectively with contractors and railroad managers
- Read and understand construction and phasing plans
- Develop sound and economical solutions to track, subgrade, and drainage facilities issues
- Conduct inspections walking and other means as necessary
- Develop capital and maintenance work projects to reduce and control the risks associated with railways
- Prioritize site interventions based on determinations from site inspection, monitoring, and risk assessments
- Verify quantities of materials received or used
- Verify distances to ensure accuracy of dimensions of installations and layouts
- Prepare daily and weekly reports as required
- Proficient in civil, structures, and tracks
- Balance multiple responsibilities and concurrent activities and initiatives
- Maintain standards to which RailPros will hold accountable the contractors we hire to complete work for our clients
- Follow standardized safety and documentation protocols to ensure compliance and operational excellence

Qualifications
- Expert in the field, understanding customer needs and the goals for projects to enhance service/safety, as well as staying current on the latest technologies which, combined with lessons learned, allows personnel to leverage and develop practical solutions for their rail network
- Applying logical thought processes and organizing resources in order to solve issues and meet commitments
- Making decisions and seizing opportunities in the context of BA business objectives
- Partnering effectively with others in order to achieve results
- Satisfying internal and external customer expectations and developing customer partnerships
- Proficiency with electronic communications including e-mail and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
Additional Qualifications, Certifications, Etc.
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to qualify for necessary background and safety checks mandated by clients
- Ability to pass a RailPros driving background audit
- OSHA 10 (prefer OSHA 30)
- Bilingual
- Previous Railroad certifications
