About the role

We are seeking a Construction Administrator for our Land Development Group in the Ashburn, VA office. This role oversees the construction phase of projects from a contract administration perspective after design teams complete their approval process. Projects may involve sensitive political or environmental concerns and require coordination with property owners, dry utility companies, and local county and state agencies. The Construction Administrator works under the Timmons Group Project Manager as projects transition from approval to bidding and manages all necessary project documents.

Responsibilities

  • Prompt, concise, and accurate communication with project stakeholders, project managers, and contractors.
  • Develop construction contract documents to facilitate project bidding/negotiation with contractors.
  • Maintain, review, and respond to all project documents, including RFIs, material submittals, as-built plans, contractor pay requisitions, and change orders.
  • Attend and facilitate pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and other construction-related meetings with owners, contractors, sub-contractors, governmental agencies, etc.
  • Resolve field construction issues through frequent communication with owners, contractors, the public, utility companies, project engineers, and agencies having jurisdiction.
  • Prepare field directives/sketches for contractors.
  • Apprise the Timmons Group Project Manager of project progress and seek direction on salient issues.
  • Review pre-bid project plans for constructability and offer suggestions to the Timmons Group Project Manager.
  • Review bid tabulations and recommend awards to owners.
  • Visit construction sites and document pertinent observations.
  • Perform cost estimating and review contractor pricing.
  • Build and review construction schedules and contractors' proposed schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with 2+ years of additional training/experience in drainage, grading, earthwork, and general site/civil land development preferred.
  • Progressively responsible experience independently coordinating, scheduling, and managing document control in a wide variety of construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of office software (MS Word & Excel) and associated equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of drainage, grading, earthwork operations, roadway and utility construction methods, materials, standards, and terminology.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environmental, and EEO/DBE guidelines and regulations.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret civil engineering site plans, architectural plans, and contract specifications.
  • Logical and systematic thinking through various project phases.
  • Ability to prepare and allocate time and effort across multiple projects in multiple geographic locations and prioritize daily and weekly tasks.
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to drive a vehicle.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Professional Registration.
  • Current working knowledge of prevailing market rates for major cost items (earthwork, pipe installation, site concrete, etc.).
  • Familiarity with VDOT Road and Bridge Standards and Construction specifications.
  • Prior experience with engineering design.
  • Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of MS Project.
  • Ability to prepare CAD drawings.

Pay

Salary range for this position is $90,000–$110,000. This position is eligible for straight-time overtime.
