About the role

The Home for Little Wanderers is an established child welfare agency with 200 years of experience helping vulnerable children and their families. Our programs serve thousands of at-risk youths from birth to age 26, focusing on safety, stability, and long-term support.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients
  • Provide counseling, behavioral training, and support to children and their families
  • Coordinate activities of daily living for clients, including hygiene, clothing, chores, and other activities
  • Assist children with transitioning between activities
  • Teach age-appropriate life skills and social skills
  • Communicate with other program staff on positive and challenging client issues
  • Complete assigned paperwork in a timely manner
  • Participate in supervision meetings with supervisor

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One-year+ childcare experience in a residential setting with a similar population of children
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer

Skills

  • Knowledge of program routines and structure
  • Understanding of the level system (cards, behavior contracts, etc.)
  • Ability to provide first aid as needed
  • Ability to plan and participate in activities with clients/students
  • Ability to teach life skills and social skills
  • Ability to communicate through written and verbal means

Impact Corps Residential Counselors can enroll in a fellowship learning track designed to provide industry experience in counseling, education, clinical roles, and leadership. They are eligible for bonuses adding up to $5,000 upon successful completion.
