About the role

This position is based at Plant Bowen in Cartersville, GA. New hires will attend a one-week orientation in Overland Park, KS. Union and/or union management experience is strongly preferred. Previous experience as a Concrete Superintendent is also strongly preferred.

You will interface with and monitor direct hire supervision and/or major subcontractor supervision and field engineering. You will ensure project requirements and expectations are met regarding craft and supervisory performance, direct hire craft productivity, and/or reporting on subcontractors' performance. You will ensure adherence by all discipline craft and subcontractors to safety, quality, schedule, and performance expectations as defined by Black & Veatch.

Key responsibilities include providing craft supervisors with information and technical direction required to complete projects safely, timely, and in a quality manner. You will ensure schedule and project expectations are clearly defined and communicated to craft supervisors and subcontractors. For union projects, you will ensure daily project execution aligns with Black & Veatch National Maintenance and Project Labor Union Agreements, understand all local union agreements, and establish working relationships with local union representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Construction Manager in ensuring complete adherence by all site supervision and craft to Black & Veatch Safety, Quality, Ethical Standards, Lessons Learned, and Performance Management programs.
  • Monitor, verify, and report on construction activities for compliance with the CPM schedule; track and report on completion of project schedule activities and commodity installation.
  • Assist craft/subcontractors/superintendents in resolving problems related to drawings, information, schedule, quality, quantity tracking, cost reporting, and safety.
  • Monitor discipline construction productivity, progress, and cost; report to Construction Manager and Field Project Controls Manager and take necessary actions to maintain targets.
  • Ensure competent and practical adherence to Black & Veatch standards and lessons learned; communicate issues and new project lessons learned for future implementation.
  • Conduct foreman/subcontractor meetings to review/assist in daily, weekly, and monthly planning.
  • Develop and monitor a 3-Week Look Ahead Schedule for assigned work scope and create corrective plans to ensure progress and productivity targets are met.
  • Verify that all material, manpower, and other resources needed to support the 3-Week Look Ahead Schedule are available and on site.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on completion of craft/subcontractor punch list activities.
  • Maintain a daily log for site records.
  • Review all craft/subcontractor timesheets, installed quantity reports, and progress payment requests.
  • Monitor supplier Technical Service Representative (supplier) daily log and review/approve their timesheets.
  • Communicate and coordinate assigned craft/subcontractor(s) daily and weekly work plans with other discipline Superintendents/Facilitators and Construction Manager.
  • Monitor assigned subcontractor(s) for compliance with subcontract scope and schedule requirements; develop a stable working relationship with them.
  • Assist Field Subcontract Administrator in the preparation of all extra work authorization requests (RFMPs/WAs).
  • Assist the Construction Engineer in compiling or answering Contractor Information Requests (CIRs).
  • Administer the execution of work packages and equipment installation.
  • Develop and distribute a Job Hazard Analysis for major erection packages within scope.
  • Identify potential back charges and out-of-scope issues and report to Construction Manager; support commercial recovery process.
  • Provide supervision, training, development, and performance management to direct reports.
  • Adhere to safety and quality standards as applicable to duties and accountabilities.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and change management effects associated with implementation of improvements.
  • Act in the capacity of a "supervisor" without management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.
  • Supervise direct hire projects general foreman and foreman, and CM projects subcontractors, superintendents, and field engineers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as a Superintendent or Construction Manager on equivalent projects.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Physical Demands:

  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move, and walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
  • See and hear naturally or with correction.
  • Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties.
  • Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls according to a set procedure; requires repetitive movement.
  • Work above 5 feet in height.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

Work Environment:

  • Typical construction site environment requiring work in cramped spaces and awkward positions.
  • Work in very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.
  • Work in extremely bright or low lighting conditions.
  • Exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Work around hazardous equipment.
  • Typical office environment.
