About This Opportunity
The Safety Manager – Self Perform Concrete is responsible for leading the safety strategy and execution for Okland's self-perform concrete operations. This position serves as the primary safety resource for concrete field operations by partnering with project teams, foremen, and craft professionals to proactively identify hazards, reduce risk, and foster a culture where safety is integrated into every phase of work.
YOUR DAY-TODAY
- Maintain a visible field presence on self-perform concrete projects, building trusted relationships with craft professionals, foremen, and project teams.
- Serve as a safety resource through field observations, safety walks, coaching, toolbox talks, and crew safety discussions.
- Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous safety engagement across all projects.
- Develop expertise in concrete construction means and methods and provide practical safety guidance that supports safe execution and production goals.
- Participate in Pre-Task Planning (PTP), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and safe work planning to proactively identify and mitigate project risks.
- Partner with operations leadership to evaluate field conditions, eliminate hazards, and improve overall project safety performance.
- Lead field safety onboarding, workforce development, required training programs, and employee certification management.
- Monitor safety performance, conduct equipment and compliance inspections, and maintain OSHA- and audit-ready documentation.
- Respond to incidents, conduct investigations and Root Cause Analyses (RCA), and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented.
- Collaborate with project teams, operations leadership, subcontractors, suppliers, and trade partners to drive consistent safety practices and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Industrial Safety, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and field experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of construction safety experience, including at least 3 years supporting heavy civil, commercial, or self-perform concrete construction operations.
- Demonstrated experience leading safety programs, conducting incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA), delivering training, and developing field safety leaders on large commercial construction projects.
- OSHA 30 certification required; First Aid/CPR certification, OSHA 500, CSP, CHST, ASP, and construction safety instructor certifications preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, concrete construction means and methods, risk management, and hazard control practices, with the ability to influence safe behaviors at all organizational levels.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to earn trust and credibility with field personnel.
- Valid driver's license and proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction safety management software.
- Must be bilingual, English/Spanish.
