About the role

The Concrete Lab Technician supports daily operations in the concrete laboratory by performing material testing, recording and analyzing data, maintaining testing equipment, and communicating results to project managers. This role ensures the quality of construction materials through laboratory testing while following company safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Work independently performing testing services, including laboratory testing of construction materials, especially soil and aggregate.
• Record data and observations, conduct test measurements, and compile data.
• Assist in conducting laboratory evaluations of concrete and masonry products.
• Report test results to project managers and communicate effectively with them.
• Calibrate and maintain testing equipment in clean working order.
• Participate in continuing education, such as obtaining certifications, attending seminars, classes, and conferences.
• Conduct field, laboratory, and office activities in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as AET’s QA and Health and Safety Policies.
• Increase proficiency in soils, concrete, and masonry testing.
• Maintain the quality of service and work product.
• Properly use and maintain company instruments and equipment.
• Coordinate with other staff to increase efficiency, productivity, and communication.
• Perform other tasks as necessary to meet departmental or company goals.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two-year technical degree in a related field is preferred, or 1+ year of related experience; OR 6+ months of previous experience as an AET Trainee technician (intern/co-op).
• Successful completion of technical surveillance is required in certain specialty areas.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.

• Capable of physical labor while wearing personal protective equipment.
• Ability to:
  • Frequently lift 30-60 pounds from the floor to 2 feet.
  • Occasionally lift 60-100 pounds from the floor to 2 feet.
  • Frequently carry 30-60 pounds for 10-30 feet.
  • Occasionally carry 60-100 pounds for 10-30 feet.

Work Environment

• Primarily operates in a professional office environment.
• May require field work in outdoor conditions on construction sites with uneven ground and adverse weather.
• Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk or hear.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands or fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-100 pounds.
• Occasionally push or pull equipment weighing up to 200 pounds.
• Frequently work outside.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Pay

Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $23.00 – $26.00 per hour based on skill set and experience.
