About the Role

The Concrete Finisher Foreman is responsible for smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures using hand tools or power tools, including float, trowel, and screed.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and comply with all company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Spread concrete to specified depth and workable consistency, using float to bring water to surface and produce soft topping.
  • Level, smooth, and shape surfaces of freshly poured concrete using straightedge and float or power screed.
  • Finish concrete surfaces using power trowel or wets and rub concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish.
  • Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or chisel and hammer, and patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
  • Mold expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
  • Sprinkle colored stone chips, powered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
  • Produce rough concrete surface using broom.
  • Mix concrete using hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
  • May direct sub-grade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms.
  • Specialize in finishing steps and stairways.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Supervisory: Manage, lead direct reports, and mentor.
  • Other duties as assigned by Foreman and Superintendent.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of concrete finishing experience.
  • Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
  • Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on-site.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Perform basic arithmetic: add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and use units of weight measurement and volume.
  • Apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of their team and your supervisor.

Physical Demands

  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
  • Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
  • Stamina to perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
  • Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions with constant changes in weather and site conditions.
  • Moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • Work at heights and abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; wear and utilize all required safety equipment.
  • Evaluate information based on measurable standards and see details in objects or drawings; recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
  • Keep good balance and work at heights.
  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Hear well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.

Schedule

This is a full-time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements. Travel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.

Pay

Compensation: $37/hour, commensurate with experience.
