About the Role

The Concrete Finisher Foreman is responsible for smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures using hand tools or power tools, including floats, trowels, and screeds.

Responsibilities

• Promote and comply with all company and safety policies and procedures.
• Spread concrete to specified depth and workable consistency, using a float to bring water to the surface and produce soft topping.
• Level, smooth, and shape surfaces of freshly poured concrete using straightedges, floats, or power screeds.
• Finish concrete surfaces using power trowels or wet-rub concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish.
• Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinders, chisels, and hammers, and patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
• Mold expansion joints and edges using edging tools, jointers, and straightedges.
• Sprinkle colored stone chips, powered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finishes.
• Produce rough concrete surfaces using brooms.
• Mix concrete using hoes or concrete-mixing machines.
• May direct sub-grade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms.
• Specialize in finishing steps and stairways.
• Maintain a professional appearance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman and Superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Manage, lead, and mentor direct reports.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• Two (2) to four (4) years of concrete finishing experience.
• Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
• Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on-site.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic arithmetic skills: add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and perform these operations using units of weight, measurement, and volume.
• Common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
• Maintain in-depth relationships with all team members and supervisors.

Physical Demands

• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
• Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
• Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
• Stamina to perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several-hour intervals.
• Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions with constant changes in weather and site conditions.
• Moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, and vests.
• Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
• Work at heights and comply with all safety and fall-protection requirements; wear and utilize all required safety equipment for work at heights.
• Evaluate information based on measurable standards and see details in objects or drawings, recognizing slight differences in shapes and shadings.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
• Maintain good balance and work at heights.
• Good vision (naturally or with correction) and hearing (naturally or with correction).
• Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.

Schedule

This is a full-time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. The schedule is subject to project requirements. Travel is required up to 90%, with presence directly on the project site location and intermittent travel to the residence of record.

Pay

$37/hour, commensurate with experience.
