Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the hatchery quality control program, animal welfare, biosecurity and safety programs.
  • Comply with the company’s low transfer crack assessment expectations.
  • Ensure correct eggs are being pulled and placed into the correct hatchers.
  • Work in an environment of 100+ degrees for long periods of time and withstand unpleasant smells.
  • Be able to lift or push/pull 50 lbs. or more repeatedly.
  • Continuous standing, walking, and frequent lifting, turning, twisting, bending, squatting, pushing, grasping, kneeling, reaching forward, pulling, and stretching.
  • Set up and cleanup of the process, halls, and setters.
  • Verify quality until all duties of the hatchery team are complete.
  • Train and fill in for any team member absenteeism.
  • Ensure a safe, efficient, and economical operation by explaining and guiding team members in their duties.
  • Participate in active safety monitoring and reporting of all team members and all areas of the hatchery.
  • May be asked to participate in the egg set process, transfer, and processing of chicks for deliveries and be the lead for any questions or concerns.
  • Maintain detailed documentation on transfer or processing, record keeping for vaccine tracking and egg placement throughout the transfer process and into the hatchers and/or setters.
  • Monitor all machines/automation and equipment for proper operation and document findings, taking action where indicated. Make adjustments as necessary or inform Supervisor/Maintenance when equipment performance is deficient and unable to identify immediate action.
  • Help in creating and implementing training guides with new team members and/or refresher training for current team members.
  • May be asked to cross train in other hatchery positions.
  • May be asked to work nights, days, holidays, or weekends.

  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that works effectively and cooperatively with customers, clients, coworkers, and leadership teams.
  • Does not leave the premises until job is complete.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Training required as provided by automation and incubation vendors as well as internal trainers and management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in a manner that maintains harmony with co-workers.
  • Must be able to work the outlined schedule.
  • Must not raise any poultry or birds.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English preferred.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
