About the Role

The primary function of the Concierge is to support and promote the interests of the Residents. The goal of this position is to provide Residents with companionship, emotional support, and to facilitate communication between the patient and the staff on the unit. This may be done by filling in the gaps wherever necessary to ensure that Resident needs are met in a timely, dignified manner. The Concierge communicates the needs of the Residents to various departments and follows up to ensure that the issue is resolved and/or that the Residents’ needs are met. The Concierge assists not only the Residents but also the staff with non-nursing duties such as obtaining ice for a Resident, adjusting pillows, reading mail, and answering questions.

The Concierge ensures that all new admissions feel welcome during the admission process by coordinating with applicable departments to prepare vacant rooms and visiting with the resident daily for the first full week of admission to assist with adjustment. After the first week, the resident will be followed up on three times a week until discharge, transition to long-term care, or identification as needing extra Concierge services. The Concierge follows up with all long-term residents on a monthly basis unless otherwise instructed and walks all floors daily to ensure the overall well-being of staff and residents.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Admissions Department to ensure units are aware of new admissions and coordinate with nursing staff to ensure necessary equipment (e.g., bed, mattress, oxygen) is available.

  • Assemble welcome baskets with essentials for Residents when applicable.
  • Greet and escort each new Resident from the lobby to their room.
  • Listen, encourage, and console Residents; interact with family members and provide support.
  • Answer call bells and assist Residents if able; if not, ensure the request is communicated to appropriate staff and follow up to confirm needs are met.
  • Receive and refer Resident complaints/concerns to the appropriate individuals through the Grievance Process.
  • Establish good working relationships with Residents, families, and facility staff.
  • Attend scheduled in-service training, supervisory meetings, and Resident Council meetings.
