Department of Innovation and Technology – Reports to Assistant Director of Engineering and Operations – Non-Exempt – All 12 Month Staff

About the Role

The Computer Technician serves as a member of the team responsible for administration and maintenance of technology systems and services throughout Stafford County Public Schools. The role performs key functions in maintaining server and network infrastructure, as well as deploying, administering, and maintaining IT-managed endpoint devices. The technician provides technical support for site-based technicians and may assist with documentation and training needs of SCPS technology systems.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot technology issues, follow up with affected staff, and coordinate with support vendors as required.
  • Work as part of the Engineering and Operations team to manage and maintain the division’s server and network infrastructure.
  • Manage and maintain the division’s endpoint device deployments across its sites.
  • Facilitate the repair and upgrade of hardware by troubleshooting problems, performing simple repairs, and/or sending equipment out as required.
  • Organize, schedule, and respond to support requests in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, and operation of a network, as needed.
  • Assist sites with the acquisition, inventory, and distribution of software and hardware, ensuring adherence to licensure guidelines.
  • Serve as a liaison between school-based technicians and the Department of Innovation and Technology.
  • Assist with technology projects managed by the Department of Innovation and Technology as needed.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Division’s and School’s technology plans.
  • Attend technical training hosted by the Department of Innovation and Technology.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Two (2) years of job-related experience (required).
  • Technical support certification (CompTIA A+ or equivalent) (preferred).

Skills

  • Knowledge of computer operating systems, hardware, and software.
  • Ability to effectively train users of multiple proficiency levels in the operation of technology systems.
  • Able to adhere to district Technology guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Able to efficiently research technical issues and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals.
  • Organizational skills needed to work on multiple projects while meeting all deadlines.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, reaching, and turning/twisting.
  • Occasional balancing/climbing, stooping/kneeling, and crouching/crawling.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs frequently; 26–50 lbs occasionally; 50+ lbs rarely.
  • Pushing/pulling up to 25 lbs frequently; 26–50 lbs occasionally; 50+ lbs rarely.
