Computer Technician

Provide technical support for Windows 10 & 11 and Mac OS to faculty, staff, and students experiencing computer hardware, software, and network issues.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware issues with computers, laptops, printers, and classroom/event/team meeting rooms.
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks for classroom technology, including cleaning, software updates, and firmware updates.
  • Provide Tier 1 support for all classroom issues during class time as calls come in.
  • Perform hardware upgrades, new computer installs, and software installs/upgrades for faculty and staff while keeping the asset database current.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for the Help Desk regarding issues they are unable to resolve.
  • Maintain data backup and recovery to safeguard university information and minimize data loss; assist in restoring data from backups in the event of system failures or corruption.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of computer equipment, software applications, and peripherals.
  • Assist in procurement processes by identifying the need for new equipment and suggesting suitable options.
  • Provide phone support when needed and remote work as approved by manager.
  • Serve as the point of contact for technical issues and services for faculty, staff, and students (as Help Desk needs).
  • Handle moves, adds, changes as needed, and special projects as assigned.
  • Support satellite offices as needed, including nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in a technical field or equivalent experience: 3-5 years in a service-based industry providing technical support to customers using computers, audiovisual, and multimedia technology.
  • Strong service orientation, organizational skills, and communication skills to deal with varied and high-level user contact.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of Windows and Mac hardware components, software applications, printers, and networking devices.
  • Proficiency in Windows and macOS operating systems.
  • Solid grasp of networking concepts, protocols, IP addressing, and subnetting to troubleshoot connectivity.
  • Knowledge of systematic troubleshooting methodologies to identify and resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify root causes and propose solutions.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and adaptability.
  • Time management and willingness to collaborate.

Schedule

  • Hours: 11 AM – 7 PM.
  • Summer hours apply.
  • Support may include nights and weekends as needed.
