About the role

The Department of Computer Science at Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, appointment effective Fall 2027. Responsibilities

  • Actively engage in the teaching, research and curricular development activities of the department at both undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Actively engage in department/university services.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related area from an accredited university. (Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.)
  • Demonstrated potential to establish an active research program with undergraduate and/or master’s students.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellent teaching of a broad range of undergraduate courses and graduate courses in Computer Science.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates in any of the areas of AI, Generative AI, Physical AI, NLP, Machine and Deep Learning, Computer Vision, applying AI to other CS subfields.
  • Candidates in other major computer science areas will also be considered and are thus highly encouraged to apply.
  • University teaching experience, including teaching assistant experience.
  • Ability to develop/establish an active and sustainable research program based on their specialties.
  • Experience of conducting scholarly research activities with undergraduate and/or graduate students.

  • Curriculum vitae;
  • Teaching Philosophy statement (2-page max) that addresses Cal Poly Pomona’s commitment to excellence in education (see above).
  • Research Statement that includes proposed research plan and how students will be involved (2-page max);
  • List of undergraduate and graduate courses the candidate is prepared to teach, courses the candidate can teach with additional preparation, and courses the candidate would like to develop (see CS Catalog ).
  • The names and contact information for at least three individuals that can serve as references;
  • Unofficial transcripts (undergraduate and graduate degrees, official transcripts will be required of finalists).

Finalists For The Position Will Be Required To Provide official transcripts for highest degree before the on-campus interview;

Provide three letters of reference dated within the last two years;

Create presentations of scholarly work and a teaching demonstration for faculty and students.
