Computer Programmer / PLC & HMI Programmer
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Computer Programmer / PLC & HMI Programmer to develop, modify, document, and troubleshoot industrial machine-control programs. The role emphasizes PLC ladder logic, HMI development, and customer technical support. The ideal candidate will translate electrical schematics and project documentation into functional control programs while working independently and keeping the team informed.
Responsibilities
- Review electrical schematics to identify and document I/O points.
- Create and maintain spreadsheets containing I/O and related machine information.
- Develop functional, running PLC programs from electrical documentation, project requirements, and concepts.
- Troubleshoot and debug PLC, HMI, and machine-control issues.
- Provide technical support to customers, including remote troubleshooting and program updates.
- Communicate professionally with customers to diagnose and resolve technical problems.
- Document programming changes, troubleshooting steps, and project work clearly.
- Work independently on projects while keeping the team updated on progress.
Requirements
- Proficiency in PLC ladder logic programming, including Allen-Bradley PLC software.
- Experience with FactoryTalk View SE HMI software and RSView32 or older HMI packages.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to follow directions and collaborate effectively in a team.
- Self-starter with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Good judgment and courtesy when working with machinery and electrical/mechanical components.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Visual Studio VB.NET.
- Experience with Visual C/C++ or related programming languages.
- Familiarity with web-development technologies (Java, JavaScript, HTML, PHP).
- Understanding of Windows servers and computer networking hardware/terminology.
- Experience with industrial automation systems, machine controls, or manufacturing equipment.
