Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled PLC/HMI Programmer to design, develop, and maintain industrial control systems for manufacturing and automation projects. The role focuses on creating reliable, maintainable PLC code and intuitive HMI interfaces to optimize machine performance, support troubleshooting, and implement system upgrades. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with multiple PLC brands (Schneider, Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, program, test, and commission PLC control systems for new and existing equipment.
  • Develop and maintain HMI screens, graphics, alarms, trends, and operator controls for intuitive use.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues in PLC/HMI systems both remotely and on-site.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to translate functional requirements into control logic and HMI workflows.
  • Perform system integration, including field device mapping, I/O configuration, and communication setup (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.).
  • Create and maintain clear, version-controlled documentation: ladder/function block code, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, and HMI design specifications.
  • Implement and test safety interlocks, emergency stop logic, and other safety-related control features in compliance with industry standards.
  • Provide commissioning support, operator training, and post-commissioning troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to increase reliability, reduce downtime, and improve maintainability.
  • Support change management and assist with firmware/firmware upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery procedures.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience programming PLCs and HMIs in an industrial setting.
  • Proven experience with one or more PLC platforms: Schneider (Modicon), Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix/CompactLogix), and Siemens (S7).
  • Experience developing HMI applications using platforms such as Vijeo Designer, FactoryTalk View, WinCC, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, Profibus/Profinet) and network configuration.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, with experience using diagnostic tools and oscilloscopes preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical schematics, I/O wiring, and panel layout.
  • Understanding of safety standards and practices (e.g., PLC safety functions, risk assessment) and experience implementing safety logic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites for commissioning and support as required.
