Computational Physics Senior Engineer 2
About the role
The Computational Physics Group at Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA), Southwest Division (SWD) seeks a Senior Engineer/Scientist to develop and analyze CFD simulations. This position involves working on local and HPC systems to support various applications like air blast, shock tubes, and explosive detonations.
Responsibilities
- Perform CFD computer simulations on local computing clusters and HPC systems
- Support the development and use of computer codes for diverse applications
- Analyze results and compare with experimental data
- Present results at conferences and meetings with customers
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide innovative solutions
Requirements
- Ph.D. in physics or engineering (mechanical, structural, chemical, or aerospace)
- GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 for all degrees earned
- US citizenship required for security clearance
- Strong technical writing skills and presentation abilities
- Experience with compressible flow and shock physics
- Teamwork and initiative to set and achieve goals
- 5-8 years experience with CFD codes and scientific programming
- Unix/Linux experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office products
Qualifications
- Required: Ph.D. in physics or engineering
- Desired: Experience with high-performance computing, model multiphase flow, and coupled FEM/CFD codes
- Desired: Ability to compare and analyze experimental/simulation data
- Desired: Proposal writing and planning/experimental efforts experience
