About the role
The Computational Physics Developer II position supports computing for a variety of high-energy physics experiments at Fermilab and CERN. The role involves designing and implementing software for high-rate data acquisition from sophisticated detectors, developing platforms for online data processing, and contributing to and leading design discussions on artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement software for high-rate data acquisition from sophisticated detectors in physics experiments
- Develop platforms for online data processing including integrating novel artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms and hardware
- Contribute to and lead design discussions, author design notes and specifications, oversee implementation
- Assist in implementing improved or state-of-the-art computational techniques into lab software to meet the requirements of scientific systems
- Contribute optimally within a diverse workforce and uphold Fermilab's dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Physics, or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a master’s with commensurate specialized experience
- Programming experience in C++/Python
- Software design and development best practices: version control and continuous integration workflows for complex projects
- Previous experience with High Energy Physics experiment detector Data Acquisition systems a plus
- Experience with high-performance computing, including Infiniband or other low-latency networking and specialized hardware (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.)
- Experience with Linux and TCP/IP Networking a plus
