Job Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) seeks a comprehensive ophthalmology position that involves patient care, teaching, and support/development of clinical research. The position is estimated at 80% for comprehensive ophthalmology and 20% for academic time. Clinical activities include patient care at UW Health clinic locations, while teaching activities involve medical students, residents, and fellows. Research activities may include participation in clinical trials and translational research.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Direct medical and surgical care of patients consistent with the scope of a comprehensive ophthalmology practice.
  • Patient care at various clinical sites including 1 S. Park Clinic, UW East Clinic, Deming Way Clinic, VA Hospital, and regional clinics.
  • General ophthalmology call requirements consistent with DOVS general call expectations.
  • Teaching activities involving medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Development and support of clinical or basic science research programs within the department.
  • Involvement in clinical, education, or research working groups within the DOVS as appropriate.
  • A strong commitment to a collegial, productive working relationship with faculty and staff.

Compensation

Required Qualifications

  • Board-certified or board eligible for Wisconsin Medical License by start of position.
  • Completion of a U.S. Ophthalmology accredited residency by start date of the position.
  • Relevant experience in clinical practice.
  • Interest in medical student and resident education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates for Associate Professor (CHS) or full Professor (CHS) rank must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the CHS track.

Education

An M.D. or equivalent degree is required.
