About the role

A composite technician at Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) performs various tasks related to the manufacture of composite parts for aircraft. The position involves laying up, braiding, and filament winding of composite materials, as well as bonding dissimilar materials into semi-finished or finished products. Responsibilities also include operating equipment such as autoclaves, hydraulic presses, and ovens, and monitoring the quality of the finished products.

Responsibilities

  • Bonds a variety of dissimilar materials (composite, metal, or laminate) assemblies, parts, skins, components, equipment or structures into semi-finished or finished products.
  • Lays out articles, cuts parts or materials to size.
  • Applies liquid or solid bonding agents.
  • Operates autoclave, hydraulic presses and ovens to complete bonding cycle.
  • Controls conditions of heat, pressure, and timing by setting and operating various controls according to the specifications for the materials and the bonding agent being used.
  • Sands, burrs and smooths over areas, apply sealing resins to cut or exposed edges.
  • Maintains and verifies quality of finished product.
  • Completes repairs on composite, metal or laminate bonded products using inspection and rework instructions.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a high school diploma or GED. A background in manufacturing processes and experience with composite materials is preferred but not required. The ability to read and follow blueprints and shop orders is essential. Weekend shift experience is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of different process materials, including prepregs, adhesives, and resins. They should be able to assist with cutting and kitting materials and complete lay-ups using measuring instruments per shop orders, blueprints, or laser ply projectors. Candidates should also be comfortable operating equipment such as autoclaves, hydraulic presses, and ovens, and monitoring the quality of the finished products.

  • Strong attention to detail and quality control skills.
  • Basic knowledge of safety protocols and personal protective equipment usage.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $20 - $25 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Shifts may vary and include weekends. Specific shifts will be determined during the hiring process.
