Composite Technician
About the role
A composite technician at Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) performs critical tasks in the manufacture of advanced composite parts for commercial and military aircraft. The position involves laying up, braiding, and filament winding of composite materials, as well as performing other duties such as bonding dissimilar materials, applying bonding agents, and monitoring quality.
Responsibilities
- Bonds a variety of dissimilar materials (composite, metal, or laminate) assemblies, parts, skins, components, equipment or structures into semi-finished or finished products.
- Lays out articles, cuts parts or materials to size.
- Applies liquid or solid bonding agents.
- Operates autoclave, hydraulic presses and ovens to complete bonding cycle.
- Controls conditions of heat, pressure, and timing by setting and operating various controls according to the specifications for the materials and the bonding agent being used.
- Sands, burrs and smooths over areas, apply sealing resins to cut or exposed edges.
- Maintains quality control throughout the production process.
- Completes repairs on composite, metal or laminate bonded products using inspection and rework instructions.
- Monitors and verifies quality of finished product.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. As a Department of Defense contractor, AEC requires hiring US citizens only. No visa sponsorship is available. The position does not offer relocation assistance.
Qualifications
Experience with composite materials, adhesives, and resins is preferred. Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and tools is necessary. Must be able to lift heavy objects and operate machinery safely.
Skills
- Proficiency with measuring instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop orders.
- Knowledge of autoclave, hydraulic press, and oven operation.
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
