About the role
The Composite Technician Lead position is located at Rock West Composites, Inc.'s San Diego facility (Otay Mesa) Aircraft Facility. This role reports to the Production Supervisor and involves managing daily production activities across multiple shifts.
Responsibilities
- Lead, train, and manage an operation staff.
- Aid in supervision of production floor activity based on assigned programs, processes, or projects and work centers, including schedules and process control.
- Aid in communicating job expectations, planning, and monitoring to meet production objectives.
- Aid in assessing personnel needs to determine skillsets required.
- Aid in determining training needs and completing training programs with the team.
- Monitor labor hours and overtime for the team while creating time-efficient operations with the team.
- Monitor, take note, and report as appropriate when employees arrive to work area, take breaks, return from breaks, take lunch, return from lunch, and finish working.
- Ensure adherence to work instructions.
- Ensure technicians know what they are expected to do the next day and that they have tools, materials, and work instructions to perform said task (not responsible to get them what they need but to report to Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager).
- Ensure product quality and conformance to specifications.
- Work with quality assurance on nonconformance issues.
- Meet continuous improvement objectives, plans, and schedules.
- Lead by example that Safety is a way of life.
- Reaffirm existing production goals or establish new goals and lead the group effort to achieve those goals.
- Ensure operations metrics for Process and Projects are well-known and track progress toward achieving enterprise objectives and Production Schedules.
- Assist in cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives for safety, on-time delivery, production efficiency, and scrap reduction.
- Lead assigned Operations staff through teaching, coaching, establishing high standards, and ensuring accountability.
- Monitor workflow to ensure schedules are met and bottlenecks are identified and effectively managed.
- Assist in analyzing and implementing process flow improvements.
- Determine and assure optimum personnel staffing.
- Optimize, implement, and assure production efficiency and product quality.
- Exhibit and promote an attitude on the plant floor that leads to an engaged and energized workforce.
- Operate at all times in compliance with the Rock West Composites Quality System and Quality Policy.
- Adhere to all AS9100 certification and compliance requirements.
- Comply with Rock West Composites policies, procedures, and Code of Business Conduct.
Product and Process Development
- Daily interface with Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager to establish clear lines of communication and provide task status.
- Provide input to engineers including guidance for creation of work instructions, travelers, in support of the production processes.
- Maintain control of production processes.
Requirements
- High School diploma/GED is required.
- Composites manufacturing experience is a big plus.
- Must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills and be able to work effectively across all areas of the business.
- Current computer literacy is a must, including full proficiency in the use of the entire Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Eligible candidate must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, a person lawfully admitted for permanent residence, a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or an asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158.
- Must have 3-5 years' experience in a technical manufacturing field.
- Welding, fabrication, composite, and wood working experience is preferred.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company's immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
Qualifications
- U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
- Under 22 CFR 120 (due to ITAR Restrictions).
Skills
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively across all areas of the business.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in composites manufacturing, welding, fabrication, composite, and wood working.

Pay
The hourly range for this position falls within $30 and $38. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
Schedule
This position is for 2nd Shift hours 3pm-12:30am.
