Composite Technician, Lead

About the role

Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) designs, develops, and manufactures advanced composite components to help our customers push the frontiers of innovation. Our core strength is producing highly tailored, complex composite components with unique products including 3D woven structures, traditional and non-traditional 2D composite structures, and discrete through-thickness reinforcement technologies. This role coordinates day-to-day operations of the layup/autoclave area to meet customer demand and production goals.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with operators and support groups on daily operations to ensure customer demand is met.
• Oversee assigned area or process, including tools, tooling materials, and calibrations, to meet production needs and prevent abnormal conditions.
• Train and mentor Level I-III technicians.
• Work with senior technicians, peers, and support groups to facilitate process improvements.
• Report daily/weekly throughputs vs. goals to direct supervisor or higher management if unavailable.
• Shift manpower within assigned area to meet production goals with minimal supervision.
• Ensure operators have necessary resources for day-to-day operations.
• Reduce waste using lean manufacturing methods (e.g., achieved over 15% reduction recognized in yearly review).
• Collaborate with engineering to verify accuracy of bill of materials, work instructions, and customer drawings for production.
• Enforce safety requirements per company standards and department procedures.
• Supervise employees, instruct on company policies/procedures, and recommend personnel actions (e.g., promotions, evaluations, disciplinary actions).
• Maintain production and time records.
• Provide formal and on-the-job training to production workers.
• Solve production-related problems and escalate unresolved issues to production supervisor/manager.
• Perform additional duties as requested by management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3+ years of experience in composites production or other specialized production environment.
• Level II Trainer experience or previous leadership experience required; Level III or IV Trainer experience preferred.
• Must be a U.S. Person (Department of Defense contractor requirement; visa sponsorship not offered).
