About the role
The Compliance Technician reports to the Safety & Compliance Manager and is responsible for conducting compliance site visits to W&T Offshore locations on an as needed basis. Primary Responsibilities include:
- Review BSEE and USCG required plans, procedures, diagrams and manuals referenced on the Compliance Checklist
- Ensure that all observations are unbiased and made independently of operations
- Verify all deficiencies are corrected from last inspection conducted
- Conduct site safety visits on well work projects, lift boats, drilling rigs and decommissioning projects
- Conduct accidents, incidents, spills, near miss and other special investigations as requested
- Work with government agencies as requested by the Safety Manager (USCG, BSEE)
- Review lock out/tag out of long term and temporary equipment
- Ensure all identification signs are in the proper places as referenced in the Compliance Checklist
- Ensure annual, semi-annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily activities have been conducted, as referenced in the Compliance Checklist, by reviewing all paperwork generated since the previous W&T compliance visit
- Conduct a facility walk-through and look for safety and environmental issues and record findings on the Compliance Checklist. Also, observe personnel activities and ensure that they are following all applicable safe work practices
- Participate in the daily safety meeting, as applicable, and discuss relevant SEMS and compliance topics and answer SEMS-related questions
- Test operators on SEMS by asking where plans, policies and procedures are located
- Review platform drawings with operators to see if they are up to date and include any recent changes to the platform
- Review operating procedures with operators
- Complete Compliance Checklist, and review it with the applicable PIC and field foreman
- Submit Checklist to the email distribution identified by the Safety Manager
- Duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Education & Experience
- 10+ years offshore oil and gas industry experience and familiarity with BSEE/USCG/EPA safety, environmental and related programs
- Can substitute some industry experience with offshore regulatory experience
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently
- Good organization skills are a must along with the ability to multi-task
- Excellent writing skills are required
- Strong interpersonal skills are required
- Proficiency in MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook), PDF and other related software required
Essential Functions
- Ability to report to offshore platforms, drilling rigs and work vessels
- Ability to travel offshore 100%
- Able to adhere to the company offshore scheduled of 14 days on and 14 days off
- Required wearing of personal protective safety equipment (safety glasses, hardhat, appropriate footwear, earplugs, etc.) as appropriate
- Able to have face to face conversations with stakeholders, peers and management
- Able to sit or stand for long periods of time and move around offshore work environment as needed
- Comply with company policies and procedure
Physical Requirements
- Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, and climbing steps and/or ladders to inspect equipment when necessary
- Requires passing of HUET and water survival courses
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
