About the Role
The 3PL Compliance Developer is responsible for designing, developing, configuring, and implementing software solutions that ensure compliance with retailer, customer, and vendor labeling and packaging requirements. This role serves as the primary technical expert for packaging label development and packing slip configuration, translating complex trading partner compliance guides into precise, production-ready label templates and documentation across Barrett’s warehouse network.
This is a remote position working Monday through Friday, 8am–5pm.
Responsibilities
- Serve as primary expert on retailer/customer packaging requirements (carton, pallet, UPC/item, RFID labels, packing slips, BOLs, shipping collateral).
- Build and configure label templates in NiceLabel, in-house tools, and other platforms to meet trading partner specs.
- Convert retailer routing guides/vendor compliance manuals into technical requirements and production-ready designs.
- Design and maintain packing slip/shipping templates in SAP Crystal Reports (ASN data, PO fields, gift messaging, carrier/retailer rules).
- Own data connections, formulas, conditional formatting, subreports, and scheduled/event-driven delivery.
- Apply GS1-128/UCC-128, UPC-A, ITF-14, QR, and RFID/EPC standards to ensure scan compliance.
- Develop/execute compliance testing protocols, coordinate test scans and retailer approvals.
- Lead compliance onboarding for new customers/retailers; build schedules with PMO, integration, and ops teams.
- Serve as IT point-of-contact, coordinating with customer-facing teams on compliance requirements/deadlines.
- Audit active programs against current guides, maintain documentation, provide status updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Occasional travel based on business need (~10%).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, IT, or related field; equivalent work experience and technical training considered.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in information systems, IT, supply chain management, or a related field required. Relevant experience in a 3PL or distribution environment strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience designing and developing retailer-compliant labels and packing slips, including direct work with SAP Crystal Reports for packing slip and collateral development, and NiceLabel, Loftware, ZPL/EPL scripting, or comparable label design platforms for carton/item/pallet labels preferred.
- Knowledge of GS1 standards and supply chain labeling requirements, including UCC-128/GS1-128 carton and pallet labels, UPC/GTIN item labels, RFID/EPC labels, packing lists, and VICS Bills of Lading.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English (Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred).
- Strong SQL skills; Oracle platform experience preferred.
- Experience supporting a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or a Tier 1 ERP with an advanced WMS module, with emphasis on label trigger configuration and print queue management, desired.
- Familiarity with electronic interfacing methods (EDI, XML, flat file) and transport methods (EDI VAN, AS2, FTP) as they relate to order data flowing into label and packing systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Strong analytical and communication skills; able to present technical findings and compliance requirements clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, complex compliance scenarios, and tight retailer deadlines with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Pay
The compensation range for this position is $75,000–$85,000, depending on experience.
