About the role

Transform healthcare by diagnosing and treating human disease, illness and injuries while practicing evidence-based medicine. Prescribe medically necessary medications and treatments, and serve on various Carilion and/or hospital committees.

Responsibilities

  • Complete necessary documentation for patients' health information records.
  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate medical care applying evidence-based medicine.
  • Examine patients using various medical equipment, instruments, and tests.
  • Order or perform various tests, analyses, and imaging to provide information on patients' conditions.
  • Diagnose patients' conditions based on examination results, tests, and reports.
  • Prescribe and administer drugs, treatments, and vaccinations.
  • May perform perinatal care, deliveries, surgeries, and related invasive procedures.
  • Work closely with case management, nursing, and the medical staff to ensure all patients have an appropriate plan of care and ongoing care coordination.
  • Support Joint Commission continuous readiness and compliance.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives through collaboration with hospital management, the medical staff, and employees.
  • Complete required documentation timely and accurately.
  • Report births, deaths, and contagious diseases as required.
  • Conduct, cooperate, support, and collaborate on basic and clinical research.
  • Develop and test new medical techniques.
  • Supervise medical treatment of patients.
  • Supervise physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, medical residents, medical students, and/or office staff.
  • Participate in teaching and mentoring activities.
  • Support Carilion's primary value that the needs of patients come first.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current license to practice medicine in the United States.
  • Experience in diagnosing and treating human disease, illness, and injuries.
  • Proven ability to prescribe medically necessary medications and treatments.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment, instruments, and tests.
  • Ability to diagnose patients' conditions based on examination results, tests, and reports.
  • Experience in administering drugs, treatments, and vaccinations.
  • Knowledge of perinatal care, deliveries, surgeries, and related invasive procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with case management, nursing, and the medical staff.
  • Commitment to supporting Joint Commission continuous readiness and compliance.
  • Experience in conducting, cooperating, supporting, and collaborating on basic and clinical research.
  • Experience in developing and testing new medical techniques.
  • Ability to supervise medical treatment of patients.
