Companion Support Worker - 08/Irvine/HS
Job Purpose
To support a lady with social support, getting out and about in her Community, crafting, Gym, swimming, shopping.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the employer to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed by her
- Be flexible and follow the employer's guidance on particular activities she wants to participate in at particular times
- Assist the employer to get out and about, engage in activities that suit her interests
- At times, provide companionship in her own home, make sandwiches, cups of tea, and attend to visitors
- May be required to provide transportation using the bus or train, or go out in the car
Person Specification

- Demonstrable experience of supporting people to fulfill their potential and have active lives
- An understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person
- Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion
- Excellent and effective communication skills
- Excellent listening skills
- Good organisational skills
- Working knowledge of good person-centred practice
- Can draw on lived experience of positively supporting someone as a peer or similar
- Can engage effectively and work in partnership with others
- Have supported people to achieve positive outcomes in their life
- Desirable:
- Wide experience of community activities
- Similar interests to the employer
- A good sense of humour, down to earth, likes a good blether and a bit of banter but is also a good listener and responsible
Training
The employer is deaf but wears cochlear implants. Talk directly to the employer, as this assists with her understanding you. She can lip read.
She has limited vision, therefore requires your support outside, she uses her cane.
Requirements
- Must have a full clean UK driving licence, as well as business use on your car insurance
- Must have own car, travel mileage whilst at work will be reimbursed
Benefits
- Salary: Living wage rate - £14.59 per hour, including a mileage rate for assisting the employer to do her shopping or pick up prescriptions
- Wages are paid 4 weekly in arrears
- Annual Leave: 5.6 weeks paid Annual leave pro rata for contracted staff
- Days of work / times required: Tues – 10 – 2pm, Wed – 10 – 2pm, Fri – 10 – 2pm
Pay
Salary: Living wage rate - £14.59 per hour, including a mileage rate for assisting the employer to do her shopping or pick up prescriptions
Schedule
12 hours per week
Probationary Period
There is a 6 month probationary period attached to the post. Successful applicant will have to undergo a new or update of the PVG disclosure scheme and supply 2 up to date reference contacts prior to appointment.
