About the role

The principal function of an employee in this classification is to perform responsible clerical, administrative and technical work involving community tasks including but not limited to planning efforts, program development and event support. This position focuses on enhancing population health through chronic disease prevention and will play a key role in delivering outreach, education and essential resources directly to residents in the community. The work is performed under the direction and supervision of a division leader, assistant department director or department head, but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment. The principal duties of this class are performed in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Responsibilities

  • Supports immunization clinics, wellness fairs and community events
  • Provides health information regarding local health resources and services to the community
  • Maintains accurate records and assists with data entry and reporting
  • Conducts engagement outreach to underserved populations
  • Collects basic health data under supervision
  • Collaborates with public health staff
  • Assists in providing health resource information/event promotion through various media outlets
  • Participates in emergency response activities as needed or as directed
  • Assists in Department programs and projects including but not limited to reaccreditation efforts, environmental health support and emergency preparedness

  • Ability to work in enclosed spaces and outdoors in all types of weather as required by position

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school graduation or possession of a G.E.D. or equivalent (will be verified for finalists)
  • Six (6) months of experience in public health, health sciences or other closely related area
  • Basic computer skills (data entry, email, Google Docs)
  • A valid driver’s license (will be verified for finalists)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with an Associate’s Degree in public health, health sciences or closely related field

Benefits

  • Health Insurance: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. The medical plan is a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA) to help cover eligible healthcare expenses. Coverage begins on the date of hire.
  • Holidays: 17 days (136 hours/year) of paid holiday leave, including New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
  • Life Insurance: After six months of employment, employees are eligible for $10,000 coverage under the group life insurance policy. Additional coverage up to the employee’s annual salary (maximum $40,000) may be purchased. Upon retirement, coverage is reduced to $4,000. Premiums are paid by the City.
  • Voluntary Supplemental Benefits: Life insurance (term and whole life), critical illness/cancer, accident, short/long term disability insurance
  • Deferred Compensation Plan: Allows employees to build a financial reserve for retirement using pre-tax, payroll-deducted contributions. Participation is voluntary.
  • Retirement Plans: The Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) and the Police and Fire Disability and Pension Fund (PFDPF) are available. Both are established by Ohio law and participation is required. Both the employee and the City contribute a percentage (pre-tax) into the system. Members do not pay into the Federal Social Security System. Employees and the City also contribute to Medicare.
