The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is dedicated to impacting and transforming young lives, strengthening families, and supporting safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

About the Role

Under general supervision, this role plans, organizes, and supervises administrative activities in the assigned county office. It provides coordination and support for basic case management activities.

Responsibilities

  • Presents a professional demeanor when working with the public.
  • Prepares correspondence and reports as needed.
  • Answers phones and routes calls appropriately.
  • Provides database entry for all incoming materials, including reports from law enforcement, victims, and others.
  • Implements and maintains procedures for recording and filing administrative forms, reports, documents, and other materials.
  • Supports the practice of electronic files.
  • Manages supplies and office inventories.
  • Operates standard office equipment.
  • Participates in job-related training and workshops for professional development.
  • Performs duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within DJJ jurisdiction, including direct contact with youth.
  • Conducts other duties as assigned, required, or requested.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma (related clerical experience may be substituted).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public in handling inquiries and sharing information.
  • Knowledge of community-based services and ability to share relevant contacts to benefit juveniles, their families, and victims.
  • Proficiency in word processing, current office management practices, and ability to learn the Juvenile Justice Management System (JJMS).
  • Knowledge of grammatical rules, language usage, and report formatting.
  • Ability to organize and support office activities.
  • Knowledge of the care and operation of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work with non-incarcerated and incarcerated youth and their families.
  • Willingness to travel overnight for training and throughout the state as needed.
  • Must provide documentation of college degree(s) at the time of the interview (official or unofficial transcript or letter of verification).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and two (2) years of clerical experience.
