Essential Responsibilities
- Provide supervision, guidance, and mentorship to public safety personnel, ensuring attention to decision making that considers nature of urgency and scene management, in adherence to professional standards and department guidelines.
- Oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Department of Public Safety’s operations unit, including patrol, communications, and shift supervision, including conducting and supervising patrol operations, incident response, and initial investigations with a trauma-informed approach.
- Leading and participating in community engagement efforts, ensuring Public Safety personnel engage in effective communication and response to foster positive interactions with students, faculty, and staff.
- Conducting performance assessments, disciplinary actions, and ongoing professional development for assigned personnel.
- Leading training initiatives and ensuring staff are prepared for emergency situations.
- Maintaining and monitoring access control systems, CCTV, and other security infrastructure.
- Serving as a liaison with external law enforcement, fire services, and emergency management agencies, when applicable.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Organize workflow and ensure staff understand their duties or delegated tasks.
- Conduct staff performance evaluations.
- Communicate key issues and information to staff.
- Provide fair, constructive, and timely feedback.
- In partnership with Human Resources, follow disciplinary procedures as established in accordance with the employee handbook.
- Participate in supervisory training opportunities.
- Maintain a safe, diverse, and inclusive work environment.
Who You Are
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly, accurately, and credibly to a wide range of audiences.
- Demonstrated experience with leadership skills, including (but not limited to) supervisory, scheduling, communication, investigation, and de-escalation.
- Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and remain calm during crisis situations and employ de-escalation skills as needed.
