This position is responsible for identifying customer needs and matching them with the appropriate bank products and services to enhance customer satisfaction, loyalty, and financial well-being. The role develops proactive sales, service efforts, and portfolio management skills to grow a portfolio of business and consumer clients while mitigating credit risk.
Responsibilities
- Recommend credit approval on larger credits to Credit Administration consistently.
- Maintain professional community relations, including leadership roles, to increase the bank’s visibility and new business opportunities.
- Recommend promotional sponsorships to senior management.
- Maximize department profitability through maintenance of a high-quality loan portfolio.
- Exercise credit authority on large and complex accounts and provide guidance to less experienced relationship managers.
- Attract new business relationships and expand existing ones through a call program.
- Participate in community, professional, and trade organizations.
- Advise and counsel customers directly to understand their financial needs and recommend appropriate products and services.
- Originate and submit credit requests promptly with organized loan packages that include necessary documentation and identify key credit issues.
- Provide a high level of customer service to build relationships, expand business, and create cross-selling opportunities.
- Practice business development through calls to customers and prospective customers to gain experience in outside loan production, negotiations, and growth goal achievement.
- Mitigate credit weaknesses, past dues, and exceptions through proper loan portfolio management, including risk analysis, early renewal processing, loan document preparation, collateral analysis, and past due collection management.
- Work with Audit, Loan Review, and the Office of the Comptroller of Currency as needed.
- Assess and prioritize multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Perform all work within the bank’s guidelines, policies, procedures, and performance standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Community Relationship Manager I
- Four-year college degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Five years of experience in sales, banking, business development, or customer relationship management in banking or a similar field preferred.
- Experience managing a business loan portfolio with varied terms and collateral, including real estate.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in sales and business development.
- Ability to develop professional working relationships with customers and internal partners.
- Good interpersonal skills and relationship-building ability.
- Demonstrated negotiation and decision-making skills to serve the best interest of the bank and borrower.
- Familiarity with products and services offered by financial services institutions.
- Understanding of business lending, credit analysis, credit approval processes, bank policies, and external regulations.
- Results-oriented, flexible, and able to prioritize simultaneous work assignments.
- General knowledge of the financial services industry, business lending, and credit underwriting.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
Community Relationship Manager II
- Four-year college degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum of eight years of experience in sales, banking, business development, or customer relationship management in banking or a similar field preferred.
- Advanced oral and written communication skills.
- Proven track record in sales and business development.
- Excellent ability to develop strong professional working relationships with customers and internal partners.
- Excellent negotiation and decision-making skills to serve the best interest of the bank and borrower.
- Proven ability to focus on results, be flexible, and prioritize simultaneous work assignments.
- In-depth knowledge of products and services offered by financial services institutions.
- Consistently demonstrated understanding of lending, credit analysis, credit approval processes, bank policies, and external regulations.
- Experience managing a business loan portfolio with varied terms and collateral, including real estate.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods while using a computer keyboard and/or mouse and viewing computer screens.
- Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds to process boxed or bagged coins.
