About the Role

The Community Relations Specialist is an integral team member of the Communications Division, responsible for assisting in the planning, developing, and implementing programs and activities to promote community awareness of the Department and the Commission.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning commemorative events including groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings.
  • Assist in managing the Department’s event calendar and coordinate a presence with internal and external stakeholders at tradeshows, meetings, and conventions, including transporting and setting up displays.
  • Support those who represent the Department at public functions including industry gatherings, inter-agency coordination events, and occasionally legislative events.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of marketing programs and educational campaigns.
  • Work closely with Department executives to develop supporting materials related to event appearances.
  • Assist in writing letters, speeches, and news releases.
  • Assist in creating presentations for District Engineers and ARDOT leadership.

The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in this job description and may modify job descriptions based on Department needs.

Requirements

Education and Experience

The educational equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the area of responsibility.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal formats with elected officials, civic leaders, and the media.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work quickly with frequently shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Results-oriented and driven to execute with a high level of accuracy in tight timeframes.
  • Process-oriented and highly organized with the ability to keep projects on track.

Working Conditions

  • Statewide role with occasional overnight travel required.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license.
