General Description

Skilled work in the maintenance, fabrication, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment related to buildings or sites or the supply, transmission, and treatment of potable water and wastewater.

Essential Job Functions

Installs, overhauls, repairs, services, and maintains equipment such as, but not limited to pumps, motors, chemical feeders, gas and diesel engines; commutators, meters, gauges, HVAC equipment, heat exchangers, compressors, blowers, gear reduction equipment and controls including alternators and regulators. Revamps lift stations, maintains 240/480 electrical system control panels. Maintains well motors, water/wastewater treatment plants, and A/C-D/C control systems. Works with power tools. Welds steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. Performs oxygen acetylene and electric welding, brazing, and soldering. Paints equipment as required. Instructs helpers doing repair and maintenance work. Checks and adjusts equipment. Maintains service records. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of methods and techniques used in the installation, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical motors, pumps, and mechanical equipment. Ability to make inspections to determine operating conditions and needed repairs of plant machinery and pumping equipment. Ability to work from blueprints, pencil sketches, or written and oral instructions. Ability to use a variety of mechanic’s tools and shop equipment in the installation, repair, and maintenance of facilities and treatment plant equipment. Knowledge of 240/480 A/C-D/C control systems. Knowledge of welding different types of materials. Ability to read for comprehension.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Ability to bend, climb, walk, stoop, and squat frequently. Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Three years of experience performing electrical/ mechanical plant maintenance. A comparable amount of directly related experience MAY be substituted at the County's discretion for the minimum educational requirements if candidates are not available that fully meet the minimum requirements of the position as posted. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license. Some positions may require a Florida CDL Class "B". If required, a temporary permit must be obtained within 30 days from date of hire and permanent license must be obtained within 6 months from date of hire.
