Community Health Worker

About the role

Serenity, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Community Health Worker (CHW) to join our team in Petersburg, VA.

Responsibilities

• Conduct outreach activities to engage community members, including home visits, workshops, and community events.
• Provide culturally sensitive health education on HIV/STI prevention and general health promotion.
• Aid clients in navigating the healthcare system, including scheduling appointments and connecting them with necessary services.
• Advocate for clients to ensure they have access to public health programs and resources.
• Facilitate support groups and educational sessions on relevant health topics.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and services provided.
• Create and manage social media campaigns to promote health communications and engage the community.
• Utilize digital tools and platforms to effectively disseminate health information.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate’s degree in a health-related field preferred. Certification as a Community Health Worker is a plus.
• Experience: Previous experience in healthcare, social services, or community outreach is preferred.
• Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients and healthcare professionals. Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse community members. Demonstrated empathy, independence, community knowledge, technology proficiency, organizational skills, problem-solving ability, and cultural competence.
