About the role
AECOM’s West Region Strategic Communications Group is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist II to lead public outreach and communications for projects in Wisconsin and across the U.S. This hybrid role requires three days per week on-site in Milwaukee, WI.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Project Managers to shape stakeholder and public engagement strategies, assess risks, and recommend best practices.
- Draft and refine communications and public outreach plans that use innovative tactics to boost community participation.
- Identify and map key stakeholders and build community profiles for client projects.
- Develop themes, core messages, and collateral tailored to diverse audiences (digital users, media, local communities, statutory bodies, technical groups, elected representatives).
- Execute outreach campaigns with minimal supervision and within budget, coordinating graphic displays and layouts for public information.
- Create presentations for stakeholder meetings that align with client brand guidelines.
- Engage communities and residents in person, virtually, or through written materials; draft press releases, social media posts, website content, e-newsletters, stakeholder communications, fact sheets, and other materials for review.
- Plan and run in-person and virtual events and public meetings, including venue selection, vendor oversight, logistics, and materials.
- Maintain meticulous records of stakeholder communications and manage feedback across channels.
- Design surveys, analyze responses, and prepare engagement reports that summarize public outreach efforts.
- Self-check deliverables before routing for review and exercise sound judgment when communicating with internal and external clients.
- Support additional public outreach tasks as directed by the Project Manager during planning and design phases.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field plus at least two years of public relations or related communications experience, or demonstrated equivalency.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience working in or supporting transportation, engineering, or infrastructure industries.
- Four or more years of professional experience in communications, community engagement, or stakeholder engagement.
- Enthusiasm for adopting new tools that enhance virtual collaboration and public communication.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite to assist with graphics and layouts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional and multi-level collaboration.
- Intermediate skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) with experience translating outreach materials.
Relocation assistance is offered; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future. New hires must complete in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office.
Pay
The annual compensation range for this position is USD 85,000 – USD 100,000, determined by education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
