About the role

The Community Engagement Specialist develops and implements strategic programming and events that build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including public and private organizations, non-profits, and local communities. This role supports AtlantiCare Healthy Engagement, Safe Beginnings, and the Midtown CDC, collaborating with partners to create programmatic activities that align with community health improvement goals and AtlantiCare’s strategic and business plans.

The position involves relationship building, partnership and programming development, event planning, and coalition building. It requires responding to community requests and translating engagement objectives into programmatic initiatives while promoting engagement through various venues, including events.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to design and implement programs supporting community health goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including public/private organizations, non-profits, and local communities.
  • Develop and execute strategic programming and events.
  • Respond to community requests and translate engagement objectives into actionable initiatives.
  • Provide quality community and customer service, promoting engagement through events and other venues.
  • Demonstrate commitment to teamwork, internal/external customer service, and flexibility in performing duties.
  • Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address programmatic challenges.
  • Participate in educational activities and pursue professional growth.
  • Make referrals to related programs and services in collaboration with department teams.
  • Operate in a fiscally prudent manner, ensuring cost-conscious use of resources.
  • Adhere to organizational regulatory requirements and departmental standards.
  • Apply working knowledge of current technology for marketing messaging and program execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Community Health, Social Science, or equivalent experience (5–10 years of relevant work).
  • Minimum 3 years of professional program development experience in a non-profit setting.
  • Valid NJ driver’s license.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet tools, and social media.
  • Writing experience preferred (e.g., blogs, newsletters, email blasts).
  • Grant management experience strongly preferred.

Work Environment

  • Potential exposure to hazards typical of a hospital environment, including infectious diseases and hazardous substances.
  • Travel primarily within AtlantiCare’s primary and regional service areas; other locations may be required.
  • Flexible work hours, including walking, standing, and lifting; prolonged sitting and occasional outdoor work.
  • Frequent use of equipment such as computers, copiers, and telephones.

This position reports to department leadership.
