About the role

This position will be based out of the Fredericksburg, VA region and will support the business across the Rappahannock River Region in Virginia. This is a strategic role that requires the right candidate to Dive Deep to understand and support the AWS business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy development and execute bespoke community engagement plans for major development projects across the region.
  • Design and execute signature events and programs.
  • Set the vision for sustainable community engagement initiatives across the region and manage these with attention to detail and a high bar for quality.
  • Own internal and external communications for community engagement programs.
  • Represent AWS Infrastructure publicly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leverage multiple communications channels to drive employee awareness and involvement in community engagement initiatives.
  • Act as the point of contact for community-centric issues and concerns.
  • Proactively identify and address internal and external issues that pose reputational risk to AWS and business objectives.
  • Lead community assessments for new sites in the region. Identify potential community-related risks and develop proactive engagement plans to mitigate them.
  • Think strategically to scale InCommunities programming as the AWS business grows.
  • Capture and report data that demonstrates community engagement's quantified and qualified impact on AWS Infrastructure, its employees, and the community.
  • Communicate these results internally and externally.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams — engineering, operations, real estate, energy, water, sustainability, construction, legal, public policy, and public relations — to deliver results.
  • Be physically present in the community. Roll up sleeves and get work done on the ground when required.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional or military experience
  • 10+ years professional experience in External Affairs, Public Policy, Communications, Community Engagement or related field
  • Previous experience supporting major infrastructure development projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience influencing multiple stakeholders and leading cross functional teams across geographies and business units
  • Experience communicating to a diverse, global audience
