About the role
The Salvation Army Midland Divisional Headquarters is seeking a Community Engagement Manager to join our team. This position offers an excellent benefits package and is salaried.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement volunteer recruitment and management policies and procedures in accordance with organizational policies and existing Volunteer Handbook.
- Maintain a customer service mindset in every connection with officers, staff, the community and volunteers.
- Manage and troubleshoot as needed the online volunteer platform.
- Manage a year-round strategy for recruiting groups of volunteers from corporations and community groups.
- Empower officers, staff, and volunteers to identify volunteer needs, announce opportunities, and produce volunteer job descriptions through coaching and by sharing best practices, including training and materials.
- Meet or exceed Red Kettle Campaign volunteer hours and goals (bellringing, Angel Tree Toy Town, etc.).
- Work with staff and committees to determine, organize, fill and manage volunteer needs for various events.
- Develop and implement recruitment, screening, training, placement, integration, and compliance plans to ensure volunteers are prepared and equipped to successfully complete assignments.
- Provide thorough instructions and ensure all volunteers are acknowledged in a timely manner.
- Maintain accuracy of volunteer database records and provide timely and trustworthy reports as needed.
- Serve as a speaker to clubs, civic organizations and churches throughout the region, alongside officer leadership.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with volunteer policies, Safe from Harm training and background screenings.
- Maintain inventory of all bell ringing equipment (signage, aprons, bells, etc.).
- Create opportunities for volunteer recognition and appreciation.
- Plan and execute events outside of and in addition to “normal work hours” that require volunteer recruitment, management and coordination.
- Serve as staff liaison to service-focused affinity groups such as Echelon, our young professionals’ group.
- Liaise with volunteer support agencies and represent The Salvation Army in volunteer associations.
- Take on immediate and added responsibilities to support the Army’s Emergency Disaster Services team as needed.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree and four years of related work experience.
- A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Professional, personable, works well with people, and understands and appreciates the diverse audience in local communities.
- Previous supervisory or volunteer management experience is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer software applications including Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
- A valid driver's license and passing The Salvation Army MVR.
