About the role

The Community Corrections Director oversees the Probation and Parole, Community Corrections Center, and Program Services within the Department. This position also coordinates assigned activities with other County departments and outside agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the Community Corrections Department's operations and activities
  • Develop, plan, and implement department goals and objectives
  • Recommend and administer policies and procedures
  • Direct, oversee, and participate in the development of the Department's work plan
  • Assign work activities, projects, and programs
  • Monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures
  • Administer and direct the provision of community correction services to offenders including program planning, fiscal management, and planning, evaluation, and monitoring
  • Confer with the Board of County Commissioners regarding the activities and programs of the department
  • Serve as a member of the Local Public Safety Coordinating Council (LPSCC)
  • Ensure that the Community Corrections programs provide for public safety needs; respond to crises in a manner consistent with county and public interests
  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints
  • Draft and revise departmental policies and procedures
  • Supervise and manage four subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of approximately 35-40 employees in the Community Corrections

Requirements

Education, Certification, & Experience: Bachelor degree or equivalent; or more than 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid driver’s license

First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification

DPSST Parole and Probation certification

CJIS Certification

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of criminal justice system, corrections theory
  • Knowledge of the behavior and adjustment problems of adult offenders
  • Knowledge of modern and complex principles and practices of community corrections program development and administration
  • Knowledge of organization and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies, and operational needs
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, and personnel management
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of fiscal planning, budget preparation, and administration
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and performance evaluation
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences or proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals
  • Ability to effectively administer a variety of community corrections program activities
  • Ability to gain cooperation through discussion and persuasion
  • Ability to select, supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff
  • Ability to design and implement fiscal systems
  • Ability to identify and respond to public and Board of Commissioners issues and concerns
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals, whether members of the public or coworkers, from diverse groups and backgrounds
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of Springbrook Human Resource systems; Springbrook Payroll systems; Excel Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software

Physical Requirements

Frequent exposure to high, precarious places; occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions; occasional exposure to noise levels in the work environment; frequent exposure to physical demands such as sitting, standing, walking, reaching, talking, and hearing.

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management.
