About the role
The Neighborhood Service Coordinator will work within a Neighborhood Model to address the unique needs and challenges of NYCHA’s housing developments. This role focuses on engaging residents, conducting outreach, and supporting them through various services.
Responsibilities
- Oversee engagement, activities, and support services in a geographic neighborhood with responsibility for 3-6 NYCHA developments.
- Conduct outreach to residents during operational projects and emergency conditions.
- Ensure residents are aware of internal and external resources and refer them to relevant NYCHA departments.
- Serve as a liaison between residents and NYCHA departments, both within Operations and Asset & Capital Management.
- Meet regularly with Resident Associations to understand concerns and support access to resources.
- Work with Resident Associations to identify desired services and coordinate related resources.
- Host meetings to explain conversion processes and the Section 8 leasing process, as well as all aspects of project delivery.
- Assess the state of on-the-ground community assets and facilities.
- Recruit residents to join programs and promote NYCHA initiatives.
- Support and attend onsite events such as Family Days, resource fairs, and job fairs.
- Coordinate with the Election team to support outreach efforts and ensure successful coordination post-election.
- Maintain both quantitative and qualitative data documenting outreach efforts, resident feedback, meeting attendance, and other key metrics.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and travel between NYCHA properties within a neighborhood.
Requirements
- A baccalaureate degree and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities, or
- A high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities, or
- Educational and/or experience equivalent to the above, with at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Qualifications
- Must have the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and travel between NYCHA properties within a neighborhood.
