COMMUNITY AND LIBRARY SERVICES COORDINATOR - Day Camps
About the role
The City of Huntington Beach seeks a Community and Library Services Coordinator to support daily operations at Murdy Community Center. The ideal candidate will assist in planning and overseeing youth day camps and year-round teen programs, working closely with the Supervisor to ensure effective delivery of key functions.
Responsibilities
- Planner, organizer, and overseer of community service programs, events, facility rentals, and activities
- Responds to public inquiries about programs and facilities
- Arranges and operates recreational equipment
- Evaluates and facilitates special requests
- Oversees part-time staff
- Recruits, trains, and supervises part-time employees
- Provides program information to the public
- Uses recreation software daily
- Maintains accurate records
- Contributes to the overall success of community center operations
Requirements
- Two (2) years' increasingly responsible recreation or community services experience, preferably in a municipal government environment
- A combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position
Qualifications
- Education: Two (2) years’ (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) college-level coursework in recreation administration, physical education, kinesiology, human services or other directly related field. Associate’s degree (from an accredited college) is preferred.
Skills
- Ability to plan, organize, and oversee community service programs
- Experience in responding to public inquiries and facilitating special requests
- Knowledge of recreational equipment operation and maintenance
- Ability to recruit, train, and supervise part-time staff
- Proficiency in using recreation software
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills

Pay
The salary range is composed of seven steps, with merit step increases based on satisfactory performance. Promotions are based on the merit system principles emphasizing individual ability and utilizing competitive examinations.
Schedule
Employees may have the option of working a 5/40 or 9/80 work schedule with Supervisor and Department Head approval. Employees assigned to the Police Department may also work the 4/10 work schedule with Supervisor and Department Head approval.
