Communications Student Assistant

The main campus is located in Athens, approximately 65 miles northeast of Atlanta, with extended campuses in Atlanta, Griffin, Gwinnett, and Tifton.
About the department
The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a 313-acre preserve set aside by the University of Georgia to foster appreciation, understanding, and stewardship of plants and nature through collections and displays, horticultural gardens, educational programs, and research.

Responsibilities
- Take photos of garden events and scenery (30%)
- Create social media posts for garden channels (30%)
- Create promotional material for garden programs and events (20%)
- Assist with the editing and creation of printed garden magazine (20%)
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Strong background in social media and graphic design
- Writing experience is a plus
- Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
- Flexibility to work some weekends and nights is preferred
Qualifications
Applicants who would be mutually beneficial for the position include:
- Journalism or public relations majors with an interest in or experience with horticulture or ecology
- Horticulture majors with media experience
- Marketing majors with an interest in horticulture or nonprofit organizations
Pay
$12.00 per hour
Schedule
Up to 19.5 hours a week
