About the role

The Communications Specialist III is a seasoned professional who develops and executes advanced communication strategies that support Denver Health's mission, brand, and strategic objectives. This role manages complex projects, creates high-impact content for both internal and external audiences, and ensures consistent messaging across various channels. The Specialist works closely with key stakeholders to support initiatives in internal and external communications, executive communications, patient communications, marketing, media relations, crisis communications, and employee engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Content Development (30%): Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans aligned with Denver Health’s strategic priorities. Create high-quality, audience-specific content for platforms including internal communications, social media, press releases, executive messaging, and marketing campaigns.
  • Editorial Oversight & Copyediting (30%): Lead editorial planning and content calendar development to ensure cohesive storytelling. Produce the monthly external newsletter Journeys and manage its distribution list, monitoring open rates, click rates, and growth. Serve as the final reviewer for all internal and external collateral to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to brand and AP style guidelines. Provide copyediting, proofreading, and quality control for marketing and communication materials. Contribute daily updates and copyediting for the intranet news site (The Pulse).
  • Supports Media Relations (5%): Assist with media inquiries, draft press materials, and support proactive media pitches to enhance Denver Health’s public profile. Provide media support during events, announcements, or issues management, including drafting or copyediting key messages and talking points. Participate in the on-call schedule.
  • Social Media (5%): Contribute to social media content creation and posting as needed.
  • Patient and Executive Communications (10%): Explore new strategies to connect with patients and develop tactics for patient communication. Assist with executive communications when needed.
  • External Representation (5%): Attend events and represent Denver Health externally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 4–6 years of related work experience with extensive writing.

Skills

  • Strong written communication skills and mastery of AP style.
  • Skilled in video shooting and editing.
  • Self-starter and independent thinker who works with limited supervision.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Service-oriented, with strong organizational and interpersonal abilities.
  • Good judgment and ability to work cooperatively and mentor others in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with content management systems like SharePoint and Drupal, as well as communications platforms like Mailchimp and Meltwater.

Pay

$81,600.00 – $126,500.00 per year.
