The position is hybrid (Santa Fe and/or Los Alamos offices) within the CEA‑TEC organization/group. The Business Systems Communications Lead will oversee and develop strategic and tactical communications for the Lab’s effort to replace its legacy ERP business system with a modern enterprise platform (SAP S/4HANA), improving workflows, unifying processes and data, integrating customized applications, and supporting more efficient, data‑driven operations. Working alongside the Program Change Manager, the role serves as a key communications advisor to project leadership, workstream leads, system integrator partners, and engagement teams, helping to integrate multimedia content (photos, video, graphics) into campaigns that reach any audience and drive results.
Responsibilities
- Lead communications planning across multiple workstreams and execute and deploy implementation strategies, helping teams anticipate communication needs and engage employees Lab‑wide throughout the transition.
- Collaborate with critical internal partner organizations and external stakeholders throughout the project’s implementation.
- Coordinate the efforts of Lab multi‑media staff, contribute to content development for internal audiences—including employees, managers, and other stakeholders—across a variety of channels, and maintain communication protocols across the program team.
- Functional team members and organizational business communications will look to you for collaboration and support.
- Help maintain consistent messaging and manage key communications vehicles, ensuring employees receive clear, timely information about upcoming changes, how staff may be affected, and how they will be supported and prepared for the transition to the new system.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a physical, life, or social science and a minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Some experience leading and coordinating cross‑functional teams with diverse skillsets and organizational backgrounds to support key business objectives is helpful.
- Thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation, and extensive experience in editing and writing.
- Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word and a baseline understanding of generative AI tools, prompt engineering, evaluating AI‑generated content for accuracy and quality, and applying AI responsibly within organizational policies.
- Strong communication skills and project‑management experience with large, enterprise‑wide initiatives.
- Excellent writer and editor with sound judgment and the ability to work as a trusted partner to leadership.
- Proficient in assessing challenges and creating and executing multi‑channel communication campaigns that achieve specific, measurable goals.
- Experience working with executive‑level leaders on a wide variety of projects and products.
- Understand how to capture an executive’s “voice” and be able to create successful communication materials — such as quotes or correspondence — without significant oversight.
- United States citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
Qualifications
- Experience working in a national laboratory or other large government organization.
- Experience with procedures and other process/policy documents related to facility operations.
- Ability to recognize and coordinate responses to potential third‑party relationships that may be affected by the project.
