  • Competitive Pay: Starting pay for a new Communications Officer is $39,846 a year. Lateral Communications Officers are highly encouraged to apply with starting wages dependent on experience.

  • Communications Officers are eligible to receive predetermined hourly increases for certifications and educational degrees.
  • Paid Insurance Premiums: The City of Rawlins pays all employee insurance premiums, a savings of $320 a month and $3840 a year for a family.
  • Pension: You are eligible for a 20-year retirement at 50% of your top five earning years, 62.5% at 25 years, and 75% after 30 years. No State Income Tax.
  • Citizens of Wyoming do not pay personal or corporate state income taxes, no retirement income taxes, and enjoy low property and sales tax rates.
  • Paid Academy: All new Communications Officers will attend the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy. The Rawlins Police Department pays for the academy tuition while also paying the Communication Officer's salary.

Job Duties

  • Analyze and transmit appropriate information to law enforcement, fire, ambulance and other personnel.
  • Answer 911 lines and non-emergent lines and take the appropriate action for the caller by dispatching the appropriate agency.
  • Record calls and activities.
  • Maintain records of cases and activities.
  • Maintain confidential information.
  • Interview callers to determine their needs.
  • Operate NCIC/NLETS computer terminal and auxiliary equipment, pagers, computers, and a wide variety of office equipment.
  • Provide general assistance to the public in preparing complaints and reports and in providing information.
  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.

Requirements

  • 18 Years Old
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Strong Moral Character
  • No felony or domestic violence convictions
